Poecilotheria metallica is also known as the Gooty sapphire ornamental. This extraordinary species from India is known for it's bright blue, yellow and white coloring. Due to it's remarkable color and difficulty to breed in captivity, this rare species is often referred to as the "Holy Grail" of tarantulas. Poecilotheria are recommended for intermediate and experienced tarantula keepers due to their speed and potent bite however, they are rarely defensive and in most cases would rather flee.
These spiderlings are currently feeding on "pinhead" and small B. lateralis roaches. Recommended enclosure: Arboreal or Terrestrial Spiderling or Juvenile enclosure kit.
Pictured is an adult female. Aside from lightening this darker photo, a crop and watermark this picture has not been edited. Correct lighting really brings out their remarkable structural blue color!
Recommended enclosure: A 4x4x6" Terrestrial Kit w/Magnetic Lock or 4x4x5” Terrestrial w/Classic Porthole. A 4x4x8” Arboreal w/Classic Porthole is also highly recommended if a hot glue gun is available to affix the cork to the top of the enclosure. Depending on the keepers individual preferences, any of the previously mentioned enclosures would make a great enclosure for this specimen until it’s large enough for or 8x8x14" Fossorial/Arboreal Enclosure Kit.
Currently feeding on: Small B. lateralis.
